Whether you have never touched a sewing machine before or are looking to refresh your skills, our Beginners Workshop is the perfect starting point. This workshop is recommended to do first before doing any other workshop if you don’t have experience with sewing. This workshop serves as the foundation for further exploration into home furnishings or dressmaking workshops.
What you learn:
Learn the ins and outs of your sewing machine as I guide you through the setup process. From threading your machine to winding the bobbin, you will gain confidence in navigating the various components. Unlock the mysteries of needles and threads as you explore the importance of using the correct materials for different projects, tension settings and stitch lengths to ensure professional-looking results every time.
You will practice a range of basic stitches and seams, gain practical experience in creating crisps corners and curves. During this workshop, you won’t just be learning theory – you’ll be crafting a tangible project that you can proudly call your own.
What to bring: your own sewing machine and sewing essentials, including bobbins, presser feet, shears, needles, and any other tools you typically use.
If you don’t have sewing machine yet, please read this sewing machine buying guide prior purchasing one. Avoid getting the wrong machine which would discourage you form pursuing sewing.

If you wish to book this workshop as your private sewing party please get in touch.

I attended the beginners’ class this morning. My aim was to become accustomed to using my machine as I haven’t touched one since leaving school! I wanted to use it for sewing my daughter’s brownie badges onto her hoodie. I absolutely loved the whole session. I now feel more confident and can’t wait to have a go with the machine on my own! I’ll now consider going back to do the cushion workshop! Thank you very much!

I attended a beginners sewing class yesterday with Magda, which was amazing! She is a brilliant teacher, who has created a sewing Mecca in Plymouth! Patient, kind and funny! I left optimistic that I could create something out of fabric and thread! Already planning to book in again with Madga later this year as I continue my sewing journey!

I attended the Beginners class at the beginning of March and absolutely loved it. It was fantastic to walk away having made something on my machine! Beforehand, I wasn’t even threading it properly! Since the class, I’ve been inspired and enthused to just have a go at some home projects using the stitches and techniques taught. I’ve made cushions, hooded towels, stuffed toys and even a sleeping bag for my baby. I highly recommend Magda and these classes for anyone wanting to get started or increase their confidence with sewing!

My daughter absolutely loved it! The first thing she asked on leaving was when can she do another workshop! Thank you so much.

Great workshop, highly recommended. I have always wanted to learn to sew so eventually I treated myself to a Singer sewing machine. Took it to the workshop (still in it’s box and wrappings) and came away with a great little bag which I made myself. Looking forward to the next workshop.

Did the beginners sew class and it was great really helped me to gain confidence with my machine and with the little knowledge I had of sewing. Having someone explain thing in front of you really helps to understand why you do the things you are shown and to ask the question you maybe struggling with. Would recently recommend this class to anyone that is starting out or needed a refresh

Brilliant course. Great teacher in a lovely environment. I learnt so much and came away with a lovely bag. Will be looking out for more courses as I would like to learn how to do button holes and how to put in zips.

Attended beginners sewing course. Absolutely brilliant. Learnt so much in three hours. Everyone thinking of getting a machine, or has one squirreled away somewhere needs to attend this course.

I went to Magda’s beginners sewing class and loved it! I was a little nervous as I’d never touched a sewing machine before and didn’t even know what a bobbin was. I rented a machine from Magda, and she put me at ease and patiently walked us through the basics step by step. The class was full, yet she still managed to give everyone one-to-one help whenever we needed it. The morning flew by and I was delighted to have made a little drawstring bag after a just few hours. I’d recommend the class to complete beginners, but the attendees who’d sewn before also said the reminders and extra tips boosted their confidence to pick it up again.
