In this informative and beginner-friendly workshop, you will embark on a transformative journey to master the art of sewing. Whether you have never touched a sewing machine before or are looking to refresh your skills, our Beginners Workshop is the perfect starting point. This workshop is recommended to do first before doing any other workshop if you don’t have experience with sewing. This workshop serves as the foundation for further exploration into home furnishings or dressmaking workshops.
What you learn:
Learn the ins and outs of your sewing machine as I guide you through the setup process. From threading your machine to winding the bobbin, you will gain confidence in navigating the various components. Unlock the mysteries of needles and threads as you explore the importance of using the correct materials for different projects, tension settings and stitch lengths to ensure professional-looking results every time.
You will practice a range of basic stitches and seams, gain practical experience in creating crisps corners and curves. During this workshop, you won’t just be learning theory – you’ll be crafting a tangible project that you can proudly call your own.
What to bring: your own sewing machine and sewing essentials, including bobbins, presser feet, shears, needles, and any other tools you typically use.
If you don’t have sewing machine yet, please read this sewing machine buying guide prior purchasing one. Avoid getting the wrong machine which would discourage you form pursuing sewing.
While you embark on your sewing adventure, we’ll ensure your journey is comfortable and nourishing. All materials needed for the workshop will be provided, and you can enjoy complimentary tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep your creative energy flowing.

I attended the beginners’ class this morning. My aim was to become accustomed to using my machine as I haven’t touched one since leaving school! I wanted to use it for sewing my daughter’s brownie badges onto her hoodie. I absolutely loved the whole session. I now feel more confident and can’t wait to have a go with the machine on my own! I attended a beginners sewing class yesterday with Magda, which was amazing! She is a brilliant teacher, who has created a sewing Mecca in Plymouth! Patient, kind and funny! I attended the Beginners class at the beginning of March and absolutely loved it. It was fantastic to walk away having made something on my machine! Beforehand, I wasn’t even threading it properly! I went to Magda’s beginners sewing class and loved it! I was a little nervous as I’d never touched a sewing machine before and didn’t even know what a bobbin was. I rented a machine from Magda, and she put me at ease and patiently walked us through the basics step by step. The class was full, yet she still managed to give everyone one-to-one help whenever we needed it. The morning flew by and I was delighted to have made a little drawstring bag after a just few hours. I’d recommend the class to complete beginners, but the attendees who’d sewn before also said the reminders and extra tips boosted their confidence to pick it up again.
