Maximum class size: up to 6 people
Skill level: LEVEL 2 – BEGINNER (You’re comfortable sewing straight lines and curves, but haven’t yet explored presser feet or different techniques) To understand our skill levels, please refer to our guide here.
What you will make: Pietra trousers by Closet Core Patterns
Features: a flat front, high-waisted silhouette with the comfort of an elastic waist in the back. Featuring lengthening panels in the front with slanted hip pockets and a hidden waist stay, you’ll never want to take them off.
Choose between four leg styles: a wide leg in floor-skimming or cropped length (View A), a slim and tapered leg (View B), or gently flared shorts (View C).
What you learn:
Week 1: Core Dressmaking Skills
- Take accurate body measurements
- Learn how to read and work with paper patterns
- Cut out a paper pattern to size
- Adapt and alter the pattern
Week 2: Pattern Prep and Planning
- Plan and prepare cloth for cutting
- Cut calico cloth to make first toile (for fitting)
- Evaluate and alter style if required.
Weeks 3 – 4: Start Working on Your Garment
- Cut your final fabric and begin sewing your chosen garment
- Use all the skills learnt to date to construct a well-fitting design
- Feel free to add details to personalise your garment.
- Your will leave with buckets of knowledge and finished garment that fits you and feels great!
To bring: Your sewing machine, fabric of your choice (for week 2) and any notions necessary
Provided: The pattern costing £20 and calico to make your toile. Threads, needles and pattern paper can be purchased during your sessions.
Tea/coffee and biscuits to keep you going.
