Hi, I’m Magda
The person behind Sewansome.

My sewing journey started long before Sewansome existed. I grew up in a creative family where making, fixing and creating things was simply part of everyday life. While other children were playing outside, I was often surrounded by craft projects and creative ideas.

My journey:

Over the years, that love of making things turned into a career.

I studied fashion design, art history, business and languages, worked as a photographer, and eventually found my way back to what I enjoyed most – sewing, creating and helping others learn new skills.

Sewansome began in Cornwall and moved to Devon in 2012. What started as a sewing and alterations business quickly grew into something much bigger. I discovered that lots of people wanted to learn to sew but didn’t know where to begin. Some had inherited a sewing machine they were afraid to touch, some wanted a creative hobby, and others simply wanted to sew a straight line without the machine “having a mind of its own!”

Teaching soon became one of my favourite parts of the business.

Over the years I’ve taught hundreds of people, from complete beginners to experienced sewists wanting to develop new skills. Seeing someone arrive convinced they’ll never understand their sewing machine, then leave proudly carrying something they’ve made themselves, never gets old.

Along the way I’ve continued learning too, gaining qualifications in teaching adults, soft furnishings, upholstery, interior design and various creative technologies. I firmly believe you’re never too experienced to learn something new.

These days you’ll usually find me in my Ivybridge studio surrounded by fabric, sewing machines, tea, and a growing list of projects that seemed like a good idea at the time.

Whether you’re looking for alterations, bespoke sewing, curtains and soft furnishings, or you’d like to learn how to sew yourself, I’m always happy to help.

Get in touch today to discuss your needs.

And if you’ve got a sewing machine that’s been sitting in a cupboard for years waiting for “one day” – this might be your sign.
