Welcome to the SEWANSOME website. My name is Magdalena Mrvova and I am originally from Slovakia. I was lucky to be born at a time when mothers taught all their practical skills to their children, and I started to learn handcrafts from a very early age. Coming from a creative background (most of my family are engineers and dad is an architect with also fine art degree), I am naturally creative and explorative.
At college, I studied fashion design alongside the history of art, coupled with business management and languages. I’m a very observational person, and I love learning. As a keen traveler, I’ve gained valuable insights into many cultures and countries. My passion for creativity, which I once looked upon only as my hobby, has now become my career, through which I constantly strive to perfect my skills.
I started being self employed in 2006 when I started photography. I mainly did fashion and portraits but also provided photography services to local businesses. You can view this venture here: www.studiomag.co.uk This knowledge coupled with marketing and design experience was a huge asset when I decided to set up SEWANSOME. This year, I also set up additional website MAGUSHI that focuses on INTERIORS and soft furnishings.
I created SEWANSOME in Cornwall and have been trading in Plymouth since the end of 2012. Since, I have acquired Certificate in Teaching adults, finished further qualifications in upholstery, 3D printing and laser cutting and obtained Diploma in Soft furnishings. At the moment, I am doing BA (Hons) in Interior design – while working, so do not worry I am here for you everyday.
I offer sewing and alteration services for clothing (including bridal wear) and soft furnishings (including made to measure curtains and roman or roller blinds) for Plymouth, the South Devon and Cornwall area. Currently setting few drop off spots around other areas in England, first being London.
Shortly after starting SEWANSOME, I noticed an interest in, and a demand for, sewing tuition. Visit the workshop page to choose sewing workshops or 1-2-1 lessons to suit your needs, or check our workshop calendar and pick the date that suits. We also offer GIFT VOUCHERS for our workshops and sewing lessons. You can purchase them here. If you do not have a sewing machine yet but would like to come to our lessons, you can hire the machine for the workshop (please enquire to make sure there is a machine available).
I am setting up sewing workshops / courses in London at the moment. They will take place one Sunday a month and one Monday morning a month. They will be listed on the workshop calendar, clearly marked with location London and further details.
I work together with with a specialist that does a sewing machine repair service, for any sewing machine repairs please contact the engineer Viv directly on 01752 350823 or 07504413612 or by email on firstname.lastname@example.org
